How to Protect Your Passwords

Here are some key principles to enhance password protection-

1. Password Strength- A strong password is lengthy, combines upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters, and avoids easily guessable patterns like “123456” or “password.” Avoid using easily discoverable information like birthdays, names, or common words.

2. Unique Passwords- Do not reuse passwords across multiple accounts. Each account should have a distinct, unique password. Password managers can help you keep track of multiple strong passwords.

3. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)- Whenever possible, enable 2FA for your accounts. With 2FA you have secondary verification method, code on your mobile.

4. Regular Updates- Change your passwords periodically. If you suspect a breach or if you’ve been using the same password for an extended period, update it immediately.

5. Beware of Phishing– Be cautious about emails, links, or messages that ask for your login credentials. Cybercriminals often use phishing techniques to trick individuals into revealing their passwords.

6. Password Managers-Consider using a reputable password manager. These tools generate and store complex passwords for your accounts, making it easier to maintain strong, unique passwords for each site.

It’s important to note that revealing saved passwords should be done with caution, especially if you are on a shared or public computer. Always ensure you are using this feature in a secure and private environment.
